This & That

I've learned a few things living and traveling abroad. I thought I would share some tips that might be worth noting if you haven't already in your own travels.

Ireland has weather "mood swings". Be prepared for them all by bringing a variety of clothing. I travel with a long scarf on every trip and you will need a light raincoat, poncho or umbrella.

Compression socks are great for the plane or days when you have tired legs.

Remember to bring an adapter (not European) that has USB ports for all your electronics.

Earplugs or headphones can make a flight more enjoyable. If you're a light sleeper, earplugs are fantastic.

Pocket projectors are great for the hotel room if you plan on traveling with kids.

Grab a SIM card before or when you get there and load Google maps before you leave free wifi areas.

You can share photos through Google photos or AirDrop. I recommend setting this up at the beginning of the trip so you don't have to backtrack through your pictures.

Download audiobooks, books, podcasts and movies as needed. Don't forget Rick's App!

I prefer writing notes in a book but you may want to have a great note app on your phone instead.

Many allow you to import pictures, record voice and edit very smoothly.

I also love music and enjoy creating travel playlists. You can share the playlists with others too!

Drawing and journaling are a must, so I take a pocket-sized book with me and buy inexpensive markers and pens. The Winding Stair and Ulysses are great for rare books and Eason's for art supplies.

If you are interested in researching your family name and crest, the National Library of Ireland in Dublin can assist you. Contact them first for the required paperwork before coming and they will guide you.

Some of the most beautiful souvenirs can be bought in Ireland so be strong and budget. Handmade lace, hand-loomed scarves, stunning jewelry, wood crafts, crystal, and wool sweaters are everywhere. I splurged and bought a hand-loomed wool scarf from Donegal with no regrets considering the craftsmanship.

One last thing, upon arriving in Dublin a few days ahead of time, I bought a DoDublin hop on hop off bus ticket in the airport on my way out the door. This helped me get an idea of the sights, neighborhood and kept jetlag at bay!

Thanks for stopping by and may the road rise to meet you, may the wind always be at your back...SLAINTE MHATH!
